Windows XP does not start up

Hi,

I have a problem with windows XP,

When I boot up it appears windows is starting, I get the Windows XP starting
up screen but then my screen goes blank and the PC crashes. I have tried to
start it in safe mode but it still crashes.

I had a power cut just before this started happening.

Can anyone help me, I have thought of rebuilding it but I need to get some
data off it first.

Thanks,

Considering the power failure, it might be that data on the hard drive is
corrupt. When you boot to safe mode, try selecting Last Known Good
Configuration.

If that doesn't work, you could do a Repair Installation of Windows. That
would leave the data intact, and hopefully fix your problem.

If rebuilding is an option, you could build your new machine complete with
operating system, then install the hard drive you're having problems with as
a slave and transfer the data over to the new system.

Good Luck,
Fitz
