There is no other way to obtain hotfixes. They are free, all you need to do
is call MS Support as indicated in the article and ask for the hotfix as
described in KB895200. They are done this way because these are supported
fixes, but are not appropriate for all machines/situations. As they are not
fully tested, there may be other complications.
Wonderful. I have to pay £35 for a support call to MS so they can give
me a patch for their buggy software. Can't even get it through
Partnership or OEM Program.
Except the phone charges for long distance or toll calls. I once waited 45
minutes on hold and the MS tech support spent 15 minutes stating that they
could not solve my problem. I was lucky it was a waranty call (no chaage)
but I spent 1 hour on a long distance call.
Conor is in the UK, and I am not familiar with their phone system to know if
they offer something similar to the 800 numbers in the US. If he has to pay
for the call, there's not much I can do about that, but I suspect that
something similar exists.
