My Windows XP Professional machine recently started rebooting continuosly.
This occurred as I was removing my new iPOD off the USB port. Here is what
happens

It reads memory properly, then detects the IDE Primary Master and gives
messages that windows could not start normally.
System then gives the option to Start Windows in Safe Mode / Safe Mode with
Networking / Safe Mode with Command Prompt / Last Known Good Config / Start
Normally.

Selecting any of the options results in loop around situation.

Will appreciate any help .... Thanks in advance

Try starting up with the iPOD plugged in and see if that resolved the
problem.

If not then we need some information about your Windows XP, especially
if it came preinstalled on the computer (OEM) version or if it is a
retail or volume license version.

And if it is an OEM version we also need to know if you have an actual
Windows XP Installation CD or if it is a "System Recovery" disk
provided by the OEM.

The further repair/recovery options will vary depending on the answers
to the above questions.

Good luck

Ron,

I tried connecting with the iPOD ... same result. The XP is on a volume
licence and I do not have the install CD or a boot floppy.

Anything else I can do?

Thanks

Bit of a long shot this one. I am assuming, without the slightest bit
of evidence, that your problem is scrambled data on the hard drive
caused by an abnormal shutdown, such as an unmountable_boot_volume or
ntfs_file_system error.

Download Bart's PE Builder http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ and create a
bootable Windows XP CD (on any computer running Windows XP that has a
CD Burner).

Boot the problem computer with this CD, open a Command Prompt window,
and enter the following command:

CHKDSK C: /F

If my guess is right this should fix the problem.

Good luck

Whoops. My bad. The command should be:

CHKDSK C: /R
