Windows XP Boot

Does anyone have any idea as to why the white Windows
2000 progress bar briefly appears whenever I boot Windows
XP Pro? I have spent a considerable amount of time trying
to determine the source of this oddity and have run out
of ideas.

This time around I performed a clean install on a brand
new 40GB drive, with 2 20GB partitions. The Win2k bar
appears during the very first reboot of the installation
procedure. I have edited the boot.ini file several times
and found that when I use the /sos switch the problem
does not appear.

Your ideas will be appreciated.

This is normal behaviour for XP. If you want to see what is loading when this bar is progressing then go>start\run msconfig\boot.ini and put a check mark in /sos and you will now see exactly what is being loaded at each boot instead of just a progress display. Have fun.
