Windows XP boot delay

Hi,

At every reboot Windows XP Home starts ok, then pauses for about 2.5
minutes, then continues. It looks very much like it is searching for
something it can't find during that time, and eventually gives up. I got
the advice in the ng to add a dummy ip, and yes, it fixed the boot-up
delay, but.... then I couldn't get online anymore!
Anyone happen to know how to solve this?
My uneducated guess is that it looks for a non-existing network or so.
I have ADSL, Alcatel Speed Touch USB modem, and a Realtek ethernet card
(which I don't use; it shows up in the systray as "Local Area
connection. A network cable is unplugged").

Your computer tries to get an IP for the unused card and
that's what takes time. Either disable the card or remove
it to fix the problem.
