Windows XP Backup questions

Hi

I'm working to prepare a backup strategy for a Windows XP environment that
includes:

o ~5 Windows XP Professional systems
o a 100 MBPS office LAN
o ~40 Gbytes spread over the 5 systems
o the need to support system disk recovery
o an ADIC Scalar 218 tape library with 1 DLT 4000
o one dedicated backup server)

Please offer your two cents, and PLEASE correct any errors in the statements
I've made below. I have very little experience with Windows XP.

First, I know that Windows XP Professional provides a backup solution with
two related components: a backup/restore program (based on BackupExec???)
that uses snapshots and tape libraries, and the ASR (Automated System
Recovery) tool that performs bare metal recoveries. The environment also
includes the System Restore feature, which also uses snapshots and can
replace corrupt files and bring a system back to a previous known state.

My problems are:
o though I did find several articles on the Microsoft web site that discuss
backups, I can't find one document/manual that brings all these scattered
pieces together. Does this document/manual exist, either from Microsoft or
from another company/author, for Windows XP?

o though the Scalar 24 is on the Windows XP HCL, the library I'm using (ADIC
Scalar 218) is not. Windows XP does not recognize the library, either. A
conversation with ADIC Support yielded a driver for Windows 2000, but not
for Windows XP. How can I make Windows XP recognize this tape library, such
that NT Backup can send tape movement/robotic command to it?

o I want to connect the Scalar 218 to the backup server, and backup all
systems via the LAN. This includes both data files, as well as the ASR
stuff. Does NT Backup support network backups (I know it can do file
shares), as well as ASR backups? The 'network' word doesn't appear much in
the thin Microsoft documentation on backup in XP.

o I want to be able to do a 'bare metal' restore, as well as restores of
files and directories. Are these functions supported, in a LAN environment,
with Windows XP's NT Backup?

Thanks very much for your advice!
