I partitioned my 40 gigabyte drive into a
4 gigabyte C-drive and a 36 gigabyte
E-drive last year. Now, I have gotten so many
fixes and now SP-2 that my system is in trouble
because of a lack of space on C-drive.

I have over 2 gigabytes in my WINDOWS file alone.
I need to re partition to maybe a 20 gigabyte
C-disk and 20 gigabyte E-disk without losing all
my programs and data.

I have in my possesion, a Windows XP CD and...
My SP-2 upgrade CD.

The only way you can create, delete, resize or merge existing partitions,
and not harm your existing Windows installation, is to use
a third-party partitioning program such as Partition Magic 8.

Otherwise, a "clean install" of Windows XP will be required
since you'll have to delete all the existing partitions and create
a new single partition.

Hello,

You will have to use an external partition software, like Partition Magic 7
or 8.

What u want is Partition Magic, you can get that from Symantec. This will
partition your drive without losing your data.

You have to use third party software to do this without deleting
everything and starting over. Rather than buy Partition Magic, what I
would use is BootIT NG, from http://www.BootitNG.com ($35 shareware - 30
day full functional trial)

Download, to its own folder, extract from the zip, run the bootitng to
make a boot floppy.

Boot the floppy, Cancel Install, entering maintenance, then click on
Partition work. Highlight your Second partition (the E:, 36GB) and
click Resize, reduce as desired. (I would still keep it rather the
bigger, say 25 GB or so).

That will leave the resulting Free space following it, you need it in
front where C can expand, so highlight it again and Slide, leaving zero
free space after.

Now highlight C and resize into the free space that is now in between
