windows xp activation

I just fried my motherboard on one of my computers. It
will need to upgrade the motherboard and possibly the cpu
and memory. I will be installing the same hard drive(s).
Will the windows xp run on this new machine or will I need
to activate it again and will it qualify to be activated?

Hi Ken,

If you are changing the motherboard, and CPU, I suspect that activation will
need to occur.
With a new motherboard, if the HAL is different, you may have to boot from
the CD and run a Repair installation.

You will need to re-activate it if you replace that much hardware. If your
copy of XP is a retail copy, you will be able to re-activate it without a
problem and still be in compliance with Microsoft's EULA. Heck, you could
replace the hard drive(s) as long as you wiped XP off the original ones. If
it's an OEM copy, you might be able to re-activate it as long as it's not
locked to your original BIOS, but to be in compliance with Microsoft's EULA
you'd need to purchase a new license.
