Dear Microsoft.

i purchased a dell pc and had a windows xp product key on the side of my pc.
I had disk problems and had to reinstall xp on the same pc several times. Now
I am not able to activate my windows xp installation.

I am fed up. I tried calling, activating over the internet and nothing
works. i have wasted countless hours on this horrible product. I have
followed all the rules and instructions and nothing works.

please advise or contact me at (e-mail address removed), tel 510 565-9434. i
called dell and they told me to contact microsoft.

i am fed up and hope you can resolve this issue.

regards,
dk

Did you reinstall Windows XP using the Dell Windows XP Reinstallation
CD that originally came with your Dell computer? Are you using the same
Dell motherboard that came with your Dell computer originally?

dk,

Sorry you're frustrated, but

1. You posted to an international newsgroup, not Microsoft

2. Since Dell is the OEM who sold you the Microsoft system, it is
*their* responsibility, not Microsoft's to assist you. That being said,
it doesn't surprise me they're passing the buck.

You can either follow the advice of the talented and helpful volunteers
here in this newsgroup, or you can try posting to
http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/

Also a suggestion -- there is almost always a better alternative to
reinstalling Windows whenever you encounter a problem. Feel free to post
here anytime with your particular problems.

Hi Carey,
yes, the exact same cd and using the same prod key. The computer is
exactly the same, no change to mboard.

It is actually strange. I had to do a reinstall a couple of times, The first
time it went thru fine over internet. The second install, internet did not
work, so I did via phone. I gave install id and it gave me a code and
entered. Then it finished. After trying to login it says i must activate. So
I again tried to activate and it says it is already activated. It keeps
looping.

Reboot your computer into "Safe Mode".
While in Safe Mode, rename the wpa.dbl and wpa.bak files located in the
\Windows\system32 folder.

This will force activation on the following boot,
but should remove the message that you are already activated message.
Sometimes if these files get corrupted, they can cause this type of problem.
