Windows XP Academic Version Upgrade

Hi,

I am just wanting to know will XP Pro Academic Version let me work the
upgrade if the previous version of windows on the PC was a pirated copy?

Just don't want to go wasting my money if it's not going to work

I think you have to do a full retail install over pirated copies: no
upgrades.
