Windows XP 64 BIT edition questions

Matt

I have some questions about Windows XP 64 bit. I have an
Athlon 64 3200+ and 512 MB DDRAM memory.
1. Will it run on my PC?
2. Is it out there yet?
3. Can you buy it in some retail store?
4. Are there upgrades avaible from Win XP Home?
5. Is it really going to improve my systems performance
and bugs?
6. Anything else?

lol, no. Just got my new PC and I'm trying to get it
fully working, squeeze all the juice from it. Everything
is overclocked too :). So, really, I have an Athlon 64
BIT 3600+ running cool. (400 mhz overclocked)

The 64-bit version of Windows XP for AMD64 CPUs is still
under development. It should be released later in the year.

The 64 bit system that is currently available is for Intel Itaniums,
which are a different code set from the AMD 64 bit CPUs (and is a
server system). You can currently use those on XP in 32 bit mode: a 64
bit AMD version is in Beta test and should not be too much longer now.
How it will then be made available I don't know.

Since when is the AMD 64 version in beta test??? Last I heard there was
just a start to plan for the AMD 64 version.

Yves if you have been reading this newsgroup this question has been
asked and answered! XP64 for AMD is supposed to come out the first
quarter of 2004. There is a beta copy available if you pay MSN first.
So oui to you! :)
