How do i find out if my laptop is runing windows xp 32
bit or 64 bits ?

Press Winkey+Pause/Break or access System Properties, does it say you have
an Itaninum processor? If not then you have a 32 bit system. The 64 bit
version for AMD is not yet released , so anybody with the AMD 64 bit CPU
would be aware they were in the test stage and it would be doubtful an
update would be available if you are running an AMD 64 bit system.
Another clue would be if you paid less than $3,000 US dollars for your
system and it doesn't support CDRW, VIDEO, and many other features you
enjoy; would say it is 32 bit. And also as EGMcCann; stated, it is not
currently available on laptops.
Home only comes in 32 bit, but follow the link provided below for more
information on the 64 bit version of XP.

Do you have a 32 or 64 bit in XP? Exe or VBS
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Line 258 - Right hand side.

Manual:

Go to Start/Run/CMD and type in: cd c:\ <enter>, systeminfo. System Type
will probably read: X86

Or go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session
Manager\Environment. In the right pane: Processor_Architecture should
read: x86 for 32 bit.

Confused, did you mean this as a reply to my post or to the OP?

I always liked the answer that Alex Nichol posted (I think it was Alex)
before he quit responding to this question. Something like "you would
know if you had the 64 bit version by the two big holes in your pocket;
one caused by the cost of the hardware, one caused by the cost of the 64
bit license."

You're perhaps quoting me rather than Alex. Here's a message I
posted many times:

"You have the 32-bit edition. Anyone who has the 64-bit version
knows it by the two large dents in his wallet--one for 64-bit
Windows, the other, even larger dent, for the special hardware
needed to run it."
