windows won't recognize 40 gb's of hard drive

Hi
I'm running windows XP with 40 GB Maxtor Harddrive but windows only
recognizes 20 GB of this. How can I get windows to recognoze the full 40 GB?

We're not sitting there next to you to see what computer you have, and
you didn't tell us. For all we know, you have one of those systems
where the morons that built it decided to waste space in a hidden
partition to store the Windows installation (along with their own fluff
software). Use the Disk Management console (diskmgmt.msc) to see what
partitions you have on the drive. Of course, if only one partition was
created on the 40GB that was only 20GB big then that was the choice of
whomever setup that hard drive. You'll need a 3rd party tool to enlarge
to include the rest of the hard drive free space it if you don't want to
destroy the contents of the current 20GB (but this presumes the rest of
the drive is really free).
