Anybody know what should ordinarily reside in
c:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem\mof\good folder?
I'm getting very strange behaviour with this folder on my old laptop. When I
try to open the 'good' folder using Windows Explorer it seems to hang
searching the contents of the folder. From the higher level the 'mof' folder
and checking for the properties of the 'good' folder I'm getting these
results - size of 39,188 bytes, size on disk is 49,152 bytes and it contains
65,533 files (that's more files than there are bytes in the folder...).
Reverting to DOS I can see that there is one file in
c:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem\mof\good called MSIOff9.mof which has size 39,188
bytes (this file is connected with MS Office isn't it?). The laptop machine
was bought as an ex-display model back in late 2001 - it does not have MS
Office on it (assume this was removed prior to it being sold to me).
If I run AVG Free anti-virus to scan the contents of
c:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem\mof\good then it runs very slowly (about 2 minutes
per file) revealing lots of 'files' each with extension .386
eg BBF53FDC.386
Running AVG Anti-Rootkit tool seems to hang during scanning when it hits the
c:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem\mof\good folder.
Can I delete the contents of the c:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem\mof\good folder?
What the hell are these 65,533 files that Windows Explorer thinks are there?
What is my anti-virus program trying to scan?
All suggestions appreciated!
TIA
Howard
