Windows Vista Starts Slow

I trun on my computer,

HP Pavilion DV200z
2gb ram
160gb HDD
2.0 Ghz AMD Dual core processor
12 Cell lithium Ion

and have to wait 10 minutes to get on to the system.

It loads extremely fast from the first load screens, all the way untill the
password imput.

After i put in my password, it takes about 5 minutes to start to the
desktop.

I can't figure it out. My McAfee protection isn't interfering with it,
neither are my own programs.

I have disable just about everything, and set the Virtual Memory to the
maximum.

What the hell is going on?

I have no idea, but my computer takes MUCH longer to boot now that it is
Vista compared to Xp. It takes double the time as it used to take.

Try the "Ready Boost" feature.

If you don't know how to use it:

Put in a USB flash drive, and the autorun options will come up.
Scroll to the very bottom, and the last one will be "Speed up my system
using ready boost." Then it will ask you how much space to use, allot the
recommended amount.

See if that helps.

Have you checked out the event logs? That's way too long to get to the
desktop, IMHO. All my 3 Vista seats here boot as fast, if not faster, than
XP.

Also check out the CPU usage in the "task manager" (ctrl alt delete)

there are logs that tell what is happening.
you can check the event logs.
or
reliability and performance logs

it is possible that mcafee is causing part of the delay with boot scan.

how many programs do you have in the tray/notification area that start up when the computer starts.
using MSCONFIG as a startup diagnosis took you can disable/enable items from the startup to see if one or more of them is causing the problem.
