I purchased a copy of Windows Vista business edition. I installed it on my
HP notebook and all was fine. Then my notebook failed. Instead of getting
an identical replacement I bought an Acer Aspire notebook. Now when I try
to install Windows Vista Business Edition it tells me I have 30 days to
activate windows, and my copy isnt genuine.

I know Microsoft does their online registration/activation procedure using a
hardware key, so how do I go about being able to use my $200 version of
Windows??

Use the phone option.

Your getting that message simply because you moved the software to another
system. The software is still registered, to you, on the original system.
You need to start the activation process again and if the automatic
activation fails, select to use the telephone activation option. Call the
displayed toll free number and tell the operator that you had to move to a
new system and they will give you a new activation code. Takes less than 5
minutes.
