I have a similar issue. Vista Home Premium (32bit). Windows explorer stops
working almost every time I launch Firefox (seems to have started after a
recent FF update). Vista 'Problem Reports and Solutions' directs me to
KB938979 as a possible fix. I download the fix for Vista 32 bit (after
jumping through the validation hoop) and receive the message that this update
does not apply to my system. So no help there. This problems is more of a
bother since explorer merely shuts itself down and restarts.

I suspect that it is an incompatibility between the latest Firefox version
and Vista. Still a pain in the butt that should be corrected.
