Window's Updates

My system telles me that I have two critical updates, a
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6
Service Pack 1 (KB832894) and nVidia driver version 52.16.
If I load the Internet update separatly it loads ok.
Whenever I try to load the nVidia driver I cannot reboot.
I get a screen error message telling me that I have
a "Frequency Error".

Regardless the update history indicates that my updates
were successful but I cannot get rid of the critical
update or the message that I have to update my system.

I already reloaded my driver but that didn't help.

Thanks

Hi, Frank. There was really no way for you to know this, but it's a bad
idea to use any of the driver updates from the Windows Update site. You
should always get driver updates from either your computer mftr. (like
Compaq or Dell) or directly from the card mftr. - like Nvidia
(www.nvidia.com). You should roll back the Nvidia driver to the one
that worked and then leave it alone. If you feel you want to upgrade
the driver, download the latest from Nvidia's site.

The frequency error probably means that the driver is trying to set a
refresh rate that is not supported by your monitor. Try rolling back
the driver to the previous version, then setting the refresh rate to
60hz. Then try reinstalling the new driver. To roll back the driver, I
suggest using System Restore. To reset the refresh rate, right click
the desktop, choose Properties, Settings, Advanced, Monitor.

Frank,
Go to the main Windows Update site and try installing the updates from
there. I have not seen your specific problem before....
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
Let me know how it works for you....
Thanks,
Aaron
