Windows Updates won't stop!!!

Every time I turn my computer on the windows updates start downloading, it
won't allow me to turn them off. I clicked in the control panel on "notify
me first before downloading and installing" but it ignores it and just goes
ahead and downlaods. How do i stop it from doing this until I'm ready to do
it? Please help.

Stupid question maybe. After turning it off did you close it and reboot.

Did you try a system restore to a point before the problem began?
