Windows Update

I can't access the Windows Update site any more - it just
does a search for the latest version of the update
software and then hangs. The suggestion on their web site
was that the problem may be caused by a firewall in Zone
Alarm. I used to have Zone Alarm installed but removed it
and there is, apparently, nothing of it left. I have
disabled the Norton Personal Firewall, but it still
doesn't work. Any ideas?

security,custom level

Thanks, I've done that - not sure what to do but
basically set everything in sight to enable (!) - anyway,
it hasn't worked! Nothing's changed
