Windows update scans my computer - shows number of needed
updates. When I try to review and install, internet
explorer has an error and says it needs to shut down.
Also, downloaded service pack 1 but it won't install on
my computer. Have restored XP to original installation
settings - nothing works. Any clues?

You need to temporarily disable your antivirus software when installing
updates, as well as any other protective software you have that interferes
with script operations or writing to the registry.

Also, if you have changed your system in a manner that is not supported, you
will have difficulty installing updates.
