Windows Update

Trevor

I have been experiencing problems with my computer which
has Windows XP installed.
It crashes or freezes on a regular basis and everything to
do with the Internet fails to work.
By some freak I was able to Restore the computer to a date
in July so now have access to the internet and e-mail.
When I contacted PC World in an attrempt to find out what
the problem is they suggested that I load any Windows
Updates that were outstanding as they thought that the
problems might be related to the current Blaster Worm.
I have successfully downloaded and installed most of the
critical downloads but am unable to install MS03-026
(823980) which I gather is very important. It downloads OK
but will not install.
I have received a message whic says "setup could not
verify the integrity of the file update.inf. Make sure the
cryptographic service is running on this computer"
I have no idea what this means.
A similar problem applies to Windows XP Service Pack 1
(Express) - this downloads but after about two and a half
hours the installation fails.
If anyone has any ideas on how to install these I would be
most grateful.

Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services to
find the Cryptographic service. Make sure it's running as
a first step.

Thanks - I have done as you suggested and it reads :-
Started Automatic Local System
Does this mean that it is in fact running?

Dear Jupiter Jones
You are a star!
Actions 1,2,3b,4 and 5 were no good but 3a where I
changed "catroot2" to read "catroot2old" has done the
trick.
Thank you very much indeed for your assistance.
