Windows Update Won't Scan

When I go to Windows Update and click on scan my computer
it does nothing. In the status bar it read Done.

I have a Dell WinXP Home, 2GHz, 256MB RAM.

I've spent 6 hours removing all spyware, adware, virus,
etc. I think my machine is clean. Any ideas?
