Windows Update will not install

N

noel

When I try to download and install Windows updates through the Help and
Support Page, I get an Unable to Install message. But when I search and
download the respective update files from the Microsoft Update site, they
install OK. I use Windows XP Home with SP2, and it started to happen after
I have installed XP2 (maybe not immediately after but I can't recall
exactly). Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Hi,

Click start/run, type %windir%\windowsupdate.log and click ok. Scroll to the
bottom, look for error codes from the most recent portion at the bottom.
Post back with these, usually in the form of 0x000000.

Hi Rick

Thanks. The last part of the log file does not seem to have any error
codes:

I did find a line with an error code a few pages back, as follows:

2005-01-29 10:32:54+1100 764 3cc ISusInternal API failed
CClientCallRecorder::DisconnectCall with error 0x8024000c
2005-01-29 10:32:54+1100 900 3a0 ISusInternal::DisconnectCall failed,
hr=8024000C

I must admit that the last time I tried to install upgrades was about 3
weeks ago.
