The following items failed to install. To try installing them again, click

Anti-virus application disabled during the download/install?

Any errors in Windows Update.log which you can compare to those listed in
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/?

80072EE7: Temporary network problem

Long story (...) but postpone updating via Windows Update for a few days.

Are there specific updates you know you want/need to install, James?
Well, I was able to download SP1a by an alternate method......

But I just re-installed windows (I had to format) and I am missing all the
security patches... anywhere else to get them from?

I am assuming that this problem with Windows Update has to do with the
Blaster Worm?

I believe we're thinking along the same lines, yes.

June '03 Cumulative Patch for IE (if it wasn't included in SP1a):
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=818529
April '03 Cumulative Patch for OE (ditto):
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=330994.

MS Download Center: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads

Separate security patch downloads are available via links found on this
page: http://www.microsoft.com/security/ (See right-hand menu and others).

Proceed with caution. It may be best to only use your machine sparingly
(and safely) until Windows Update is back up and you can successfully (and
safely) download again.
Yes, I had the same problem. The damn thing took forever
to download but did not install the windows update. I am
pretty pissed off about now.

Thank you so much for your help.....

Any idea when Windows update might be back up and running??

Is it down to avoid problems with this worm, or as a result of the worm?

Also...

IE Tools>Internet Options>Security>Trusted Site >Sites
[button]>Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone
(uncheck). In the "Add this Web site to the zone:" field, add the following
entries to list of Trusted Sites:

http://www.download.windowsupdate.com
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
https://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://download.windowsupdate.com

and

*.akamai.net [eff.16-Aug-03]

Windows Update appears to be fully functional today (17-Aug-03).
