Windows Update & nvidia drivers

My recommendation is to NEVER install drivers via Windows/Microsoft update.
If a driver update is offered visit the manufactirer site and if indeed
there is one, download it from there. Too many people have too many
problems with drivers downloaded from Windows/Microsoft update.

Strange, because third party drivers delivered through Windows Update are
thought to be tested and fully approved by Microsoft.

Andre:
Most of NVidia mobo chipset drivers provided via WU have caused me big
problems, specially SATA and RAID drivers.
WU is my last choice for drivers.

Same problem here. Caused me to have to resort the the install DVD to do a
restore.

Quite! I've had it offer to exchange a fresh video driver with a two year
old (must have been from the Beta's) version.

I am very restrictive about these updates and review everything every time.
It just can't wait for me to let it kill my IE6.

Is this my good friend Carlos Atashian from Argentina? :)

Well, I haven't experienced such problems so far with my Geforce FX 5200. My
main system a laptop is using a ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 anyway, so I'm
good. :) Best of luck to you both. :)

Windows Vista is tested and fully-approved by Microsoft, too.

I do not find the concept of getting problematic software direct from a
Microsoft web site strange. This situation is the norm, in general, since
the Windows 95 beta.

Yes, the same old Carlos (Atashian) from the southernmost tip of South America!

Just installed (via Windows Update) NVidia update for 8500 GT. My 22"
Samsung Monitor promptly lost 4 horiz. inches. Tried to reboot, no
luck. I had to rollback.

Getting a new MS OS is like getting a new wife with all the
aggravations of the old wife and a bunch of new ones you never
imagined.

Never, ever, download hardware drivers from anywhere but the hardware
manufacturer's web site, whatever flavor of Windows you're using. The
drivers MS have on their Windows Updates site are famous for causing
havoc. Go to nvida.com and see if they have newer drivers than the ones
you have now and try that.
