Hello!

I have a system running XP Home SP2 that will not access Windows Update. It
acts as thought it is loading, but ends up with nothing more than a blank
white page. When I click on Help > About in IE, the Version, Cipher
Strength, and Product ID are all blank. I tried several articles to
re-register DLL files and even re-installed SP2, to no avail.

What is really strange is that I can access SSL-encrypted sites, but not
Microsoft Update or Windows Update.

I have used http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813444 to do all but the step of
creating a new user profile (ran out of time). I will try that tomorrow, but
I do not see how that would only affect IE in a particular profile.

Any ideas?

Gregg, if the links Unk provided don't help you might want to post to
the windows update newsgroup and scan if for any similar situations. It
is strange what you are seeing - or in this case not seeing - in IE
which suggests something at issue with IE so consider an IE newsgroup as
well.

As an alternative, inbetween step to Paint, I would
recommend LView.
(if you decide to try, I can walk you through using LView.
It has a boatload of features, and it super easy to use.

Copy of LView attached.
