Just wanted to add my voice to the growing chorus. I have
seen the following problem on 4 machines: 2 newly built
laptops and 2 established workstations. The laptops and
workstations are at different sites. All machines are
running XP Pro.
- I successfully connect to Windows Update.
- It successfully scans my system and tells me what I need.
- I accept the updates and then accept the EULA.
- The download box opens and the updates quickly cycle
through without downloading.
- The download box closes and I am returned to Windows
Update and all the patches are listed in red as having
failed.
I am disabling my AV software while doing this. On the
new machines no other programs are running.
I have successfully downloaded XP SP1 by going to
downloads and choosing the network install package. I
could not get the service pack from Windows Update.
