Windows Update failed

We did a Windows Update last week. I must be gullible.
It activated something called Windows Firewall. I am a new
user of Defender Pro 5in1 firewall, antispam,etc which we
have had a month or two. I suspect they collided:

Anyway I now cannot access the web at all, and my windows
start button will not even open "my documents" or "my
computer"

I was not really expecting this kind of update!!!

Go to the Control Panel and find the Windows Firewall applet and turn it
off. Then go to the Security Center applet and change the way it alerts
you. Disable the alerts about the firewall.
