windows update error "new info on this"

Hey for anyone else that encounters what I did with the
windows update error.

I discovered a trojan ..this is an old one from 2001 that
was going around "JS/IEstart.gen.d". It compromised
your start up page if IE.... but this time it seemed
to "attacked" a windows update file. When my virus
software found it and deleted it ... windows update would
no longer work. So far I have only found one mention of
it being reported ...(not at norton or Mcafee) Sophos
reported one incident and that their dat files for march
would include it.

Warning .. I got this simply by visiting a website ...
and I was searching troubleshooting things when it
happened. So this is obviously another vunerability that
hasnt been found yet. Will post again if I find out if
what exploit it is ..if I missed an update . Or if
anyone else has heard of it .. please email me
"(e-mail address removed)" thanks

Hey, thanks for including your email address in a post to a public
newsgroup. Now I can add you to my spam list (if I ever decide to go into
that lowlife business.)

Different organisations have different naming conventions for virii, so
"JS/IEstart.gen.d" is likely included in Symantec's or McCaffee's
definitions under another name.

What's more, nobody knows what you encountered, because you started a brand
new thread instead of continuing your original thread.

My friend, it seems like you've got a bit to learn about newsgroups and
about virus protection. Consider this a wakeup call. I wish someone had
kicked my butt when I was just starting out.

FYI ...
The email address I gave is not really my email address I
use ...so it doesnt matter. You didnt have to flame me
so. Also ..you didnt read me right ... Mcaffe and Norton
did have the virus listed .. but ONLY in reference to the
incident back in 2001 ... They did NOT list any new
reports of this trojan. Sophos, however, DID have a new
report of this trojan going around.
