Windows Update error 80070020

I have also been getting this error when I to run Windows update. I have
tried all options listed by Microsoft Knowledge Base with no luck. I unload
all startup apps that I can and even try manual downloading and install of
updates still they fail. Please what can I do to find out why they will not
install? My internet security software is BitDefender Internet Security v10.
Please any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
A Google of the error turns up some discussion
about Bit Defender real time checking being the cause.
One suggestion is to turn off Bit Defender until the
updates are installed, then turn it back on.
 
I have done that. Even going as far as using task manager to stop all bit
defender apps/services that are running in the background. Then try to
re-download & install updates. They still fail.
 
erm i might be that u got a fake copis on windows u need to phone ur
laptop/pc manufater and microsoft and tell them what happending
 
I know my copy is legit. I have activated correctly. I have the genuine
Microrsoft logo. Since my PC is a 'bits and picies machine(Ebay) machine
there is no Manufacture I can contact. I e-mailed Microsoft over a week ago
and go no reply.
 
You are not the only one with this problem. I too am running Vista and Bit
Defender v10 and I cannot download or install windows updates either.

I had the same problem just dissable Bitdefender until you finish updating then tur it on after and it'l work by the way thanks for bringing up bitdefender up I would have never have figured that out if it wasn't for you thanks. :)

Turn off bitdefender antivirus "real time scanning" temporarily. Run the update, and it will work. Remember to turn back on your "real time scanning" when you're done.

Bitdefender techs are working on a fix. It should be out in about a week.

Try running a check disk, it solved my problems with windows update and
8007000B error

thanx all!!! i have also bitdefender and off course i had the same problems..
i must say: i wouldn't have thought about turning off my
real-time-protection. at least now i can update again! hahaaar
 
Whouaouh SO STANGE !! I try to disabled my real time protection, and I even
turn off bitdefender complitely.. And It dont Works !!

I dont know, is there an other device who pull the poo ?
 
Hi,
i am getting the same error message "8007000B".
i am unable to update.
i am also runing AVG 7.5 ANTI-VIRUS + FIREWALL
i have tried to stop the firewall then install and also tried allowing all
connections but with no luck i am still stuck.
Can anyone please help me.
