My Vista Home Premium 32 (OEM) does NOT "see" SP1
as a needed update yet. Is it still unofficial?

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 is not available for installation
from Windows Update and is not offered by Automatic Updates:

Last night I updated using Windows Update, first I got a non-related patch.
Said no SP1.

7-8 minutes later it showed SP1 Available, I hit install and let it do its
thing. Slow download but worked. Only weird part is stage 2, I had 2
update windows running.

But seem running without issues and Computer->About shows SP1 installed.

Carey,

I, too, was under the impression that SP1 was not available via Windows
Update. However, I just checked for updates and there it is: ~62MB in size.
Do you have any idea why it has been released early? I haven't installed it
yet-- I think I'll wait awhile, first.

Thanks,

Dick

I was having trouble getting Windows update to provide SP1. I checked all the
drivers , etc. Then I found a small note in the SP1 deployment guide that
said the Windows update was having trouble scanning if a USB cable to a UPS
was plugged in. It suggested unplugging all USB cables. I did this , except
for my mouse and Windows update offered SP1 immediately.

It sucks if code requires a full moon, Jupiter aligns with Mars,
while I sacrifice my first born on my birthday.

With all the SP1 troubles I've been reading, I'll stay off it for
now.

All I can say, Zilla, is that I clicked on Windows Update; it said the
download was available; I clicked install, and literally walked away from my
laptop. I didn't have any problems at all. Somewhere in the process -
beginning or end, I can't remember - Update indicated my machine needed
approximately 65 megs. And, that was that. I did visit some MS site
beforehand for standalone stations, where the download for 32 bit Vista was
450 megs. But it advised I use Windows Vista Update, rather than download
the larger version. So, I took their advice.

That's my experience. I do have a newer machine - approximately two months
old - and that may have played a part, I don't know. Others will have to
fill you in on their thoughts. The key, I guess, is to make sure your
drivers are all updated. At least, that's what I've been reading in these
posts.

Hope you find this "comforting".

Take care,

Ernie

That's what baffles me.

My laptop is 3 mos old, and with latest driver updates, and default BIOS
settings (for now).

Go wonder.

I don't know, Zilla. Hopefully, someone with more knowledge than I will
chime in and help answer your question.

I followed your link and read what Microsoft had to say. It seems that
installing the download is innocuous; but, who knows? And, would it rectify
your problem? "I am no knowing."

Good luck.

Sound too simple a solution but for what it's worth, it wasn't until I put
in every update that finally got SP1 to show up--even the ones that said
optional.

Ok, that's something I don't normally do. For example, why would
I install Silverlight (KB946609) if I'll NEVER use it?
