Windows Update Causes Faiure

I installed a fresh copy of Vista Ult. on my laptop yesterday. I set the
Windows Updates to run. When I restarted, I get a black screen with error
0xc0000098 pointing to ntkrnlpa.exe. I followed the directions to restart
with the CD and it rolled me back to a point where it would boot. I
re-installed Symantec anti-virus and Virtual Server (those installs were
removed during the roll-back). The laptop would restart with no problems. I
ran the updates again and the same problem. This time I took an image prior
to running the updates. There are 43 updates that it installs, any ideas
what would cause this? I am going to apply the updates 1 by 1 to see if I
can find the problem update, but any help would be appreciated.

I too have the same problem. Seems that the Windows update service is
broken. I found that I could do updates one at a time. Windows Vista
certainly has it quirks!
