When requesting upodates from the Windows update site. the scan returns with the updates list but my OS ID as Windows 98. Am I getting the propper updates?

I have recently installed a second hard drive and a second disk burner ( one CD and one DVD). In addition a USB storage device. Explorer will not show drive letter F or G. Under administration tools,Computer management,Disc management, I can see the full drive complement. From this utility I can create short cuts for the extra drives. Why does Explorer not see the extradrive letters?

Ed, take a look at the physical install of the drives. Make sure that the
red stripe on the ribbon cable lines up with
Pin 1 on your drive and motherboard connector. Try a different cable. Make
sure you have all your Ide devices set
to Auto detect in the Bios. Check here for Updates.

The drives function OK, I just can't see them under
explorer.
