Windows Unable to Install SP1

Upon attempting the updates using Windows Update tool, it searches the computer, comes back and tells me under Critical Updates that SP1 is not installed. When I tell it to install it, it downloads and extracts the update, but then immediately after extracting comes back with a window message that states something to the fact of "This update is incompatable with with this version of Windows..." although I am running Windows XP Home

Help! Please, before this stupid worm takes effect of this comptuer too!

Go to Start > Run and type: WINVER , and hit enter.
Look for the "Build" number. Does it show "Build 2600"?

Dear Robert,
I had trouble getting SP1 also. I finally ordered the CD
from Microsoft for 9.99 (free ship) It installed in 20
min. with no trouble. Call (425)635-3311- takes 3-10
days. By the way, the security update for the SASSER WORM
is #KB835732 in their list. Till you get SP1, try
ZoneAlarm (free download from ZoneLabs)to keep WORM out.
