My XP Windows Task Manager lists a whole bunch of processes that I
usually don't use.

1) Wondering how those programs get to start in the background?

2) How to prevent them from being started?

Thanks.

Delete them if you don't use them.

Disable them or remove them.

Go to Start........Run.........type in msconfig........select the startup tab
and uncheck the processes you don't want to start automatically on bootup.
Don't uncheck your anti-virus!

Click start, run and type MSCONFIG the click ok be careful some processes
are necessary.
