Windows Task Manager does not work

I

IS dept

On a Windows 2000 box when you bring up windows task
manager it does not function at all. The window that
comes up does not have the normal tabs (Applications,
Processes, Performance) nor the menu options (File,
Options, View, Help). There is no normal system
information provided. All that is presented is a window
with the "Windows Task Manager" Title and an "End Process"
button at the bottom. Clicking on the button does not do
anything and the only way to close the window is to right
click on the icon on the task bar and select close.

It appears that something has corrupted this portion of
the windows operating system. What is the best fix, or
what techniques can be utilized to further investigate the
problem.

Thanks for any help.

run a repair on the system. Boot off the CD and hit enter to install
windows 2000
then it will detect previos OS when it finds your install of 2000 it will
ask you to hit enter to repair or esc to not repair. Hit enter and it will
repair the install of 2000. I would try this first. if that does not work
then redo these stepes and hit esc for do not repair and install into the
same directory an new copy of 2000. this will leave all of you data there.
