Windows start-up speed

I've recently converted my file system from FAT to NTFS. I've taken care to
defragment the MFT, pagefile (and what else is there) boot-time and these
files are indeed contiguous. I use PerfectDisk 7.0.
Point is, although program execution speed is good, windows load-up takes
forever.
I'm running Windows SP, Intel Pentium 4CPU 3.20 Ghz, memory 512 Mo.
Thanks for advice.

How long is "forever"? Some people consider anything over 30 seconds
to be excessive at startup while others do not get concerned until the
time stretches to 5 minutes or so.

If your computer is booting up in 30 seconds and you are still not
satisfied then you are probably on your own because there really is
not much that can be done to improve on that speed.

If your computer is taking 5 minutes or more to start up and you do
not have any Norton/Symantec products installed then there may be
something delaying the startup process. Try using the Windows XP boot
logger program from http://greatis.com/utilities/bootlogxp/ and see if
that will tell you what is slowing down the startup process.

Good luck
