My Computer/in explorer coming up VERY SLOW

L

Lonnie

This just recently started on my system and it seems to
coincide with a recent update from "windows update".
Anyway, whenever I click on My Computer, rather it's from
the "Start" menu or within the file explorer, it takes
like forever for it to come up. Everything else is at
the speed it used to be (pretty darn quick). When I
click on my computer, a yellow folder comes up and the
infamous flashlight shows up going back and forth back
and forth :) sheeeesh, what's the deal here, anyone
know.

Any ideas comments appreciated.

Does the problem only show itself the first time you try to access Windows Explorer after booting the machine? In other words after accessing Windows Explorer if you close it and then reopen does it open normally?

Any error reports in the system section of Event Viewer? Make an exact note of the precise text of any error message. Minor discrepancies can make it harder to search for information about the error message.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer.
When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source
and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&Product=winxp

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you should double click
for further information and you can copy using copy and paste.

(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click on the
error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button resembling two
pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your message
(email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This will paste the info from the
Event Viewer Error Report complete with links into the message. Make sure this is
the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.

Any changes to installed scanners / printers?

Hope this helps.

It rears its ugly head every time :) I found out what
the problem was ( at least I hope it is it ). The last
part of your message down there included something about
printers :) well I had installed a new printer, but for
some reason the problem didn't exist at first, so I don't
know. I uninstalled the software for the printer, then
reinstalled (in between the two, I checked to see if the
problem had went away and it did), now everything seems
fine (even after the install it still works fine).
Thanks for that little one liner down there "any changes
to installed scanners / printers" :) I might not of
thought of the stupid printer.

Thanks again.
