Windows sizes suddenly small

All of my windows in xp previously opened full size. Suddenly they are all
opening in the reduced size. I've read all the help files but nothing tells
how to set the windows to open in full size. Anyone know where the control
for this is and how to change the setting back to where it was? And anyone
have a guess as to what might have made it suddenly change?

For general windows, use the mouse to drag the a window to an upper corner, then use the mouse to
drag the opposite window corner down to the far corner. Don't use the maximize button. Then close
the window and reopen it. It should now remember the full screen size. You may have to do that
with each program window.

For a desktop shortcut, or even a menu shortcut, right mouse click on the short cut and choose
properties. Then select the option to open maximized.
