Windows Service Pack Installer update service

My network monitoring software has recently started complaining about the
subject service because it is set to start automatically and is not started.
If I try to manually start the service, it fails with no error. The
dependent service, the Security Accounts Manager service is started. This is
true on all of our Windows 2000 Servers. The service is not even in the list
of 2003 Server services. Does anyone have any idea what's up? Thanks in
advance for your help!
