I just recently installed Windows Service Pack 2 along with a few other
updates included. When I restarted my computer, the little red shield popped
up notifying me that my computer might be at risk. I tried to open the
application, but nothing happened. I tried some other applications on my
computer and nothing happened there either. The only thing that I was able to
open was my browser, and that was only through using the link to the
Microsoft Security Web Site that you can access through the red shield. I'm
wondering now if I will have to format. Has anyone else had this problem or
know a possible solution?

I can also access documents and pictures, but no programs.

Ok, I've now discovered that I can access programs by pulling up something
that uses that program, like a document for Word. I was also able to access a
program by re-installing it again, and letting it automatically launch after
installation. Not to say that this is any better, but maybe another clue to
what's gone wrong. I really would hate to format when there could be an
easier solution, but I'm at a lost, and would really appreciate any advice.
