windows search folders function

I cannot access my folders/files/pictures search function; when I click
start> then search, all that happens is CPU goes to 100% and no seach
results. Also cannot access task bar or start menu once I click on search
but fine until I click search. (Can launch icons on desktop still even after
clicking on search.)
I made another user account and search works there, but inconvienient this
is.
Recently downed yahoo search, didn't like result and dumped it. Am
associating with that event but of course cannot know.

This is me again. Yesterday about two hours after posting my question, I
tried again the seach function as I had periodically been doing over the
three days or so the problem had occured.
This time after watching on taskmanager for maybe 100% CPU it suddenly
worked after maybe 30 to 40 seconds into this and I was OK. As I said, I had
been forcing shutdown when this behavior occured.
It had entered my mind that it would simply tale time for the seach function
to retake control after yahoo had 'ursurped' that function maybe. A theory.
I don't know.
