Windows Scripting Host wont start.

Hello,

Iv'e recently started having problems with windows scripting host,
it was working just fine a few weeks ago when I last played a video
game that uses it. I decided to do some gaming tonight and was greeted
with this message.
windows script host access is disabled on this machine. Contact your
administrator for details.

Checking my event log I found multiple entries from scripting host
with event id 1000 the type is failure to audit and the message listed
is .
Attempt to execute Windows Script Host while it is disabled.

I did make a few adjustments in the group policy editor and in some
other locations, but I don't recall changing any settings or
restricting windows scripting host. then again with all of my 4am tune
ups on the PC I may have done so by accident. Iv'e gone back through
the gp editor and cant find anything for it, same with tweak UI and
the registry. I tried using nortons tool to disable then re enable it
but that did nothing for me. Checked Microsoft site and the only
article I could find said to contact my administrator for help. There
isn't one since its just me on the PC at home so that's less then
helpful. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi XxTemplar,

Are you also getting the following error when running a script
(VBScript/JScript)?

- - -
Windows Script Host access is disabled on this machine. Contact your
administrator for details.
- - -

If so, scripting may have been disabled using the method listed here:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/scriptcenter/guide/sas_sbp_lhak.mspx?mfr=true

Follow the reverse of that article (delete the "Enabled" value) in the
mentioned registry location.

Hi Ramesh,
Yes I do get that message when I run vb scripts. Iv'e checked that
page from Microsoft before and the entry they refer to isn't in my
registry, I scanned the entire registry for "script host" entries and
none of them had those values in there keys. I had hoped to luck out
and find something to indicate why script host is disabled but I found
nothing obvious that would tell me what's wrong.

I think it may have been disable or locked out in something like
the global policy editor or maybe the management console but going
back and looking through them I can't seem to find where it may have
been done. Any advice on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi XxTemplar,

WSH restrictions may have been set in any of the following locations:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Script Host\Settings]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows Script Host\Settings]

Have you checked both the above locations? Also, "Enabled" is the value
name, and not the sub-key name.
