Windows Script Setup Error

XP SP3

I have messed up my scripting and wish to correct it. I installed Windows
Script 5.6 for Windows XP and 2000. An MSDN or TechNet article had
suggested it. When I went to Microsoft Update, I get the 'Windows has
encountered an error and needs to close error'. System Restore gives the
same error. I looked around and found Windows Script 5.7 for Windows XP,
but it won't let me install it. It says 'Setup has detected that the
Service Pack version of this system is newer than the update you are
applying. There is no need to install this update'.

Is there a way to get my scripting services back?

Thanks, Fred
