Windows Photo Gallery - hiding the huge toolbars

Compared to XP's "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer", I have noticed that
Vista's "Windows Photo Gallery" is very badly designed. The huge toolbars at
the top and bottom of the window in Windows Photo Gallery take up far too
much space and I can't find a way to hide them. I want my screen space to be
used to display my photos, not wasted on displaying thick toolbars. Is there
any way of hiding the toolbars other than using the slide show?

To view a photo in actual size was Ctrl+A in XP, but in Vista you need three
keys in separate parts of the keyboard - Ctrl+Alt+0. To make it worse, this
feature doesn't even work in the slide show mode.
