Windows open with the Folder pane visible- how do I turn this off?

Each time I open Control Panel, My Network Connections, etc, I see the
folder pane to the left of the window- this never used to happen. How do I
stop the folder pane from opening?

Click on Folders on the Toolbar.

Either change you default settings for Folders via View or run the edit from
