Windows NT 802.1x client

G

Graham Rowbottom

Having finally obtained the NT/98/Me 802.1x client from our TAM, I was
very disappointed to read this in the known issues list:

"Microsoft 802.1x Authentication Client supports the IEEE 802.1x
authentication protocol for wireless adapters only, not for ethernet
adapters"

We are trying to build a wired 802.1x implementation (supporting NT)
with a custom EAP extension (RasEapBegin() etc...) Are we de-railed?
What 802.1x clients are there for NT/98/Me that support any kind of
custom EAP extension?

thanks
graham

Hi Graham -

Wired 802.1x is supported in XP and beyond. So as long as the clients that
you are using are XP or later, 802.1x should work with the MS clients.

Hope it helps.

Hi Graham -

I checked further. Wired 802.1x is supported only on w2k and above. So for
downlevel clients (NT/98/Me), the MS 802.1x implementation will not work on
wired networks. That will work only on wireless networks.
