Windows newsreader default for Outlook News

When using Outlook 2007 there is a button on the toolbar, 'News,' to call
up the Windows Mail newsreader (according to the help file). However in my
case a different program opens (Barca) when I press the button.

What changes would I need to make to have it open the Windows Mail
Newsreader? There is no default for newsreader programs as far as I can see.
I don t think that making Windows Mail the default email program would help,
especially since I am using Outlook. (I have Barca installed in case I want
to read older email messages.)

In the Program Defaults, try making the default for the NNTP: protocol to
Windows Mail. Can't check it myself right now as I am not using Vista.

Hi, Jay.

First, as you probably know, Outlook does not include ANY news reader
abilities. All it can do is call up whichever news reader you have
installed. Vista comes with Window Mail integrated, so it is installed
automatically whenever Vista is installed, whether you want it or not. WM
includes both an email client, which approximately duplicates the one in
Outlook, and a news reader.

My Outlook 2007 toolbar has a New button, but not News. Are you SURE yours
has a News button? OK, I see now that I CAN add a News button to Menu bar
or to the Go menu. I never knew that!

Now that I've added the News button, clicking it takes me immediately to
Windows Live Mail, which I've set as my default News application.

To change your default, go to Control Panel | Default Programs. Your
choices include both "Windows Mail" and "Windows Mail (News)". Please post
back with questions.

You can go into the Control Panel, Default Programs, and select "Set your
default programs", Then "Windows Mail (News)" and select Windows Mail.

I made windows mail (news) the default newsreader but still the same.

I removed Barca and again tried pressing the 'news' button in Outlook. This
time a folder called 'documents' opened (?).
Guess I ll have to open windows mail myself.

Thanks for your generous replies.
