Windows Messenger .... assembly component

C

Christian Ista

Hello,

At installation (Windows XP) time, I installed "Windows Messenger" (by
default).

Few days ago, I installed "MSN Messenger 6.2"

I don't know if it's from this time but now when I click on a PDF file
(Adobe Distiller 6.0 and Adobe Reader 6.0.1 installed), Adobe Distiller
start to read the document at this time an installer start to install
"Windows Messenger 5.0". At the end of this installation I have this error :

"An error occured during installation of assembly component
{874793FC-5F43-8FE7-18C4DB9B143D}, HRESULT : -2147024864"

The installer make a roolback and try again to install with of course the
same error.

I have to kill the installer via the taskmanager.

Then I tried to remove "MSN Messenger 6.2" and "Windows Messenger" and
reinstalle them but always the same problem.

Do you have an idea what's happen ?

thanks,

Christian,

Hello all

i have the same problem, only one step worse. even if i
kill it the installer trys again immeadiately. i am stuck
in an endless loop. the only solution is to reboot. is
this an Acrobat problem or a messenger problem. i have had
it before where i would kill the install and reader would
open. but now i get this mess.

Greetings Alan,

To fix this, firstly, make sure that Windows Messenger 5 and MSN Messenger 6 are both closed.
You may
even want to load up the Task Manager (press Ctrl-Alt-Del or right-click in the taskbar and
choose Task Manager) and make sure that msmsgs.exe and msnmsgr.exe are not running.

Then uninstall Windows Messenger 5 by clicking Start, then Run, and type the following:
msiexec /x {1F0BD960-6525-4FEE-B577-2473F77F1277}
then click OK.

Then, after uninstallation, reinstall Windows Messenger 5 from:
